Private Swim Instructor in Astoria: Expert Mobile Swim Lessons at Your Building Pool
Astoria Swim Instruction
Hey there, I'm DK — a former Division 1 All-American swimmer providing private swim instruction across Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester County, and Jersey City. I bring expert coaching directly to your Astoria building pool.
Astoria is one of Queens’ most vibrant neighborhoods—waterfront parks, incredible dining, a strong community, and modern buildings with standout amenities. Many of those buildings include excellent pools. But having a pool and feeling confident using it are two different things.
That’s where I come in. I provide personalized instruction focused on proper form, technique, positive reinforcement, water safety, and (most importantly) comfort in the water. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a parent prioritizing safety skills, or training for fitness goals, I bring expert coaching directly to your building.
Why Astoria Residents Choose Private Swim Lessons
Private lessons are a great fit in Astoria because they match the way people actually live here: busy schedules, high value on convenience, and access to quality building amenities. Instead of commuting to a facility, you can learn (or improve) in the pool you already have access to—on your own time, at your own pace.
Private instruction is especially helpful for adults who never learned to swim, swimmers with water anxiety, kids who need patient pacing, and anyone who wants fast, measurable progress.
The Astoria Pool Advantage
- Queens convenience: No Manhattan commute for lessons—your pool is right downstairs.
- Modern amenities: Many Astoria buildings have clean, well-maintained pools that are ideal for instruction.
- Year-round access: Indoor pools make consistent progress easier, regardless of the season.
- Family-friendly community: A great environment to build kids’ confidence and real water safety skills.
- Manhattan proximity: You get convenience and value—without giving up access to Midtown when you need it.
What Makes a Great Private Swim Instructor
Great coaching isn’t just about technique—it’s also about building trust. The best private instructors can teach fundamentals clearly, keep sessions safe and structured, and adapt their approach to different ages, learning styles, and comfort levels.

Private vs Group Lessons
Private Lessons
- Best for: adults, anxious swimmers, kids needing patient pacing, busy schedules, specific goals
- Why it works: 100% attention, customized plan, faster progress, flexible scheduling
- Typical investment in Astoria: $100–135 per session (45–60 minutes)
Group Lessons
- Best for: social learners (often kids) and budget-focused families
- Tradeoff: divided attention and fixed schedules
- Common challenge: group pace may not match your comfort level or goals
Recommendation: If you have building pool access and want efficient, personalized progress, private lessons deliver the best value and convenience in Astoria.
How It Works
You provide: Pool access (building, private, or membership facility) and any required building approvals.
I provide: Expert instruction, teaching equipment as needed, customized lesson plans, and flexible scheduling.
Many beginners build foundational competency with consistent weekly sessions. A common goal is feeling comfortable, swimming a short distance, floating, and treading water with confidence.

Do swim lessons guarantee my child will not drown?
No. Swim lessons do not make a child drown-proof.
However, lessons can greatly improve safety by teaching essential survival skills, building confidence, and improving body awareness.
Adult supervision and safe pool practices are always required, regardless of skill level.
What guidelines do you follow for teaching and evaluating swimmers?
Lessons and benchmarks are structured to the American Red Cross Water Safety and Instruction Standards.
What ages of swimmers do you teach?
We start as young as 6 months old and teach all the way through adults.
- Infants & Toddlers (6 months–4 years): gentle water introduction and parent-child bonding
- Children (5–12 years): foundational skills and stroke development
- Teens (13–17 years): technique refinement and competitive training
- Adults (18+): beginner to advanced instruction
What if I don't have a pool at my house?
Since we're a mobile company, we don't have a dedicated facility for lessons.
If you have a family member or friend with a pool who's willing to allow lessons there, we're happy to accommodate. We may also be able to teach at select approved facilities depending on your area and schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
What temperature should I set my pool heater to?
For lessons, we recommend pool temperatures of at least 87°F. The ideal temperature for teaching younger children is around 90°F. In general, warmer water tends to be more comfortable—especially for beginners.
Will my child learn to swim within a certain number of lessons?
Everyone learns at a different pace, so there's no guarantee a student will meet any time goal or learn by a specific lesson count.
If a child is rushed or pushed too soon, fears can be formed or enhanced. We keep the process calm, confidence-first, and developmentally appropriate.
How often should I take lessons?
Recommended minimum: 1 lesson per week for steady progress.
Accelerated learning: 2–3 lessons per week for faster results.
Maintenance/refinement: 1–2 lessons per month for experienced swimmers focusing on specifics.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice at no charge.
Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) incur a fee equal to 50% of the lesson cost.
No-shows are charged the full lesson fee.
What is your refund policy?
Individual lessons: Refunds may be available for unused lessons with 24+ hours notice before the scheduled lesson.
Packages: Prorated refunds may be provided for unused lessons. Used lessons are calculated at the single-lesson rate.
Time limit: Refund requests must be made within 14 days of purchase.
