Private Swim Instructor in Queens: Expert Mobile Swim Lessons at Your Building Pool
Queens Swim Instruction
Hey there, I'm DK — a former All-American swimmer with 10+ years of private swim teaching experience across Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island, Westchester County, Jersey City, and Connecticut. I bring expert coaching directly to your pool—focused on confidence, technique, and practical water safety.
Queens has the best kind of variety: waterfront towers in Long Island City, family neighborhoods with quiet amenity pools, and easy access to lanes through local facilities. If your building has a pool, private lessons make it simple to actually use it consistently—without commuting across the city.
I provide personalized, one-on-one instruction emphasizing proper form, smart progressions, positive reinforcement, and comfort in the water. Whether you’re starting from scratch or polishing technique, the goal is the same: make swimming feel approachable—and sustainable in your routine.
Important note: I’m a mobile instructor and do not provide a pool location. Lessons require access to a pool we can use (your building pool, private pool, or facility membership).
Why Queens Residents Choose Private Swim Lessons
Queens schedules are real—work, school, and family routines don’t always match facility class times. Private lessons remove friction: no commuting, no crowded lanes, and coaching that adapts to your pace.
What makes private instruction a strong fit here
- Schedule-friendly: lessons fit around your workday, school pickup, or weekend routines.
- Privacy: a calmer environment helps nervous swimmers and beginners progress faster.
- Better feedback: real-time correction builds safer technique and quicker confidence.
- Consistency: when the pool is in your building, showing up becomes easier.
The Building Pool Advantage in Queens
Amenity pools are one of the best environments for progress: predictable water conditions, familiar space, and fewer distractions than crowded facilities.
Why it works
- Close-to-home access: less resistance, more consistency.
- Comfort + confidence: familiar surroundings reduce anxiety—especially for adult beginners.
- Year-round momentum: indoor pools keep skill-building consistent through all seasons.
- Family-friendly: easier logistics for parents and multi-child scheduling.

Private vs Group Swim Lessons
Private lessons are built around you—your schedule, your pace, and your goals. Group lessons can be a good option for social learners, but typically involve shared attention and a fixed progression.
Private lessons are a strong fit for
- Busy schedules that change week to week
- Anyone who prefers privacy while learning
- Swimmers who want faster, personalized progress
- Kids who benefit from individualized attention
Group lessons are a strong fit for
- Swimmers who enjoy learning alongside peers
- People who prefer facility-run schedules
- Kids motivated by group energy
Recommendation: If you have building pool access and a busy schedule, private instruction is usually the most efficient path.

People Also Ask
How much do private swim lessons cost?
Our private lesson rates vary based on session length and location. We offer single sessions and package options.

Do swim lessons guarantee my child will not drown?
No. Swim lessons do not make a child drown-proof.
However, lessons can greatly improve safety by teaching essential survival skills, building confidence, and improving body awareness.
Adult supervision and safe pool practices are always required, regardless of skill level.
What guidelines do you follow for teaching and evaluating swimmers?
Lessons and benchmarks are structured to the American Red Cross Water Safety and Instruction Standards.
What ages of swimmers do you teach?
We start as young as 6 months old and teach all the way through adults.
- Infants & Toddlers (6 months–4 years): gentle water introduction and parent-child bonding
- Children (5–12 years): foundational skills and stroke development
- Teens (13–17 years): technique refinement and competitive training
- Adults (18+): beginner to advanced instruction
What if I don't have a pool at my house?
Since we're a mobile company, we don't have a dedicated facility for lessons.
If you have a family member or friend with a pool who's willing to allow lessons there, we're happy to accommodate. We may also be able to teach at select approved facilities depending on your area and schedule.
What temperature should I set my pool heater to?
For lessons, we recommend pool temperatures of at least 87°F.
The ideal temperature for teaching younger children is around 90°F. In general, warmer water tends to be more comfortable—especially for beginners.
Will my child learn to swim within a certain number of lessons?
Everyone learns at a different pace, so there's no guarantee a student will meet any time goal or learn by a specific lesson count.
If a child is rushed or pushed too soon, fears can be formed or enhanced. We keep the process calm, confidence-first, and developmentally appropriate.
How often should I take lessons?
Recommended minimum: 1 lesson per week for steady progress.
Accelerated learning: 2–3 lessons per week for faster results.
Maintenance/refinement: 1–2 lessons per month for experienced swimmers focusing on specifics.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice at no charge.
Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) incur a fee equal to 50% of the lesson cost.
No-shows are charged the full lesson fee.
What is your refund policy?
Individual lessons: Refunds may be available for unused lessons with 24+ hours notice before the scheduled lesson.
Packages: Prorated refunds may be provided for unused lessons. Used lessons are calculated at the single-lesson rate.
Time limit: Refund requests must be made within 14 days of purchase.
